T
he 12th Lock on the Royal Canal is famous for many things not least
for being the first area of the canal to be re-watered after the canal
was closed in the 60's. This was achieved by the Royal Canal Amenity
Group a voluntary group set up in 1975 to oppose government plans
to build a motorway over the canal. The group's first area to tackle
was the 12th Lock and to their eternal credit not only managed to
re-water large stretches of the canal (through voluntary groups
along its length) but also persuaded the government to adopt the
canal for restoration in the 90's. The canal restoration is now
fully in the hands of Waterways Ireland but funds are limited hence
the need to ask you for help to complete this "public amenity".
C
astleknock Marina Development Association
was set up in '05 to complete the development of Marina Facilities
at the 12th Lock. This area is owed by Waterways Ireland who fully
endorse this proposal. This will be a public amenity and open
for all to use. Captain David Woodnutt is the Treasurer of the
Association and can be contacted by phone 01-820-5263 or e-mail
on david@castleknockmarina.com. David would be very pleased to
answer any questions you may have or accept donations. We also
have B.E.S Fund approved by Bord Failte to raise funds and if
you invest in the fund you can expect a refund of 30% from the
tax man.
You can apply on line or at reception
at the 12h Lock Hotel or post it to CastleKnock Marina, 12h Lock, Royal Canal,
Castleknock, Dublin 15. Thank You. Captain David Woodnutt.
